Students tour Blair Athol Mine

A group of staff and students from The University of Queensland visited Blair Athol Mine recently as part of a natural resource management tour of western and northern Queensland.

Blair Athol Mine senior closure planner Darren Springer showed the group around, focusing on rehabilitation efforts and environmental management on site.

The university described the tour as “positive and rewarding”, especially since none of the students had visited a mine before.

Kestrel Mine to host rescue competition

Kestrel Mine is set to host the underground mines rescue competition on 17 October.

Nine national teams from New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania will compete in the event, which will include first aid, underground rescue and fire scenarios.

Kestrel Mine is well placed to host the event, having opened a brand new fire station and training facility earlier this year.
