Employee profile - Schenlee Doucette from Hail Creek

Hail Creek Mine Mobile Equipment Operator Schenlee Doucette believes respect, active teamwork, good communication and a good sense of humour make all the difference between a good day and a great day on site.

Schenlee, who started at Hail Creek Mine in 2003, is the mine's first female step-up supervisor, seeing her supervise the crew in her team leader's absence.

"There are now many paths available to women in the mining industry, the opportunities for women are far greater today than 15 years ago when I first started," Schenlee said.

A typical day for Schenlee involves operating a variety of machines, working with other operators, planning personnel and supervisors, training and assessing and helping to arrange hot seat changeovers and crib breaks during the shift.

"I enjoy working in mining as I like being outdoors and doing hands on work in an industry full of interesting people, challenges and environments," said Schenlee.

"Hail Creek Mine appealed to me because of its fresh outlook, family friendly environment and great culture."

"Schenlee has an excellent future with Hail Creek with the potential of being an excellent crew leader," Hail Creek Mine Manager Scott Wilkinson said.

"With her work as step-up supervisor, trainer/assessor and as an active member of our Emergency Response Team, Schenlee displays those important qualities required in our supervisory team."
